Role Title: Networking and Configuration Technician

Role Purpose
Networking and Configuration Technician installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots an organization’s LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls. The technician plans, deploys, configures and optimises the network covering aspects such as security, cabling, and device installation.
The technician provides support to resolve connectivity issues and undertake trouble shooting to maintain system reliability. The technician will be required to work on several networking vendor technologies and platforms, these include MikroTik m Ubiquity and Grand stream. In the case of MikroTik vendor technology, the technician will be focus on deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure using MikroTik Router OS and Router BOARD hardware.
In the case of Ubiquity, the technician will be responsible for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting networking hardware and software, with a focus on the Ubiquiti UniFi, Edge Max, and air MAX product lines
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Configuration: Set up and configure network hardware (routers, switches,
firewalls) and software, including operating systems. - Maintenance & Monitoring: Perform routine network maintenance, firmware updates, and
security patches to ensure high availability. - Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, system failures, and
performance bottlenecks. - Security & Optimization: Implement security protocols, manage user access, and
optimize network performance. - Documentation & Support: Maintain detailed records of network configurations, IP
addresses, and hardware inventory.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency with networking protocols (TCP/IP), cabling standards (fibre/copper), and
vendor hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper) - Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with networking protocols (TCP/IP), cabling standards
(fiber/copper), and vendor hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
Experience and Qualifications
Education:
- A degree or diploma will be an added advantage.
- Certificate in IT or systems engineering.
Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA),
- CompTIA Network+,
- Security+
- MikroTik Certified Network Associate)
- Master MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer
- MiktoTik Certified Traffic Control Engineer
- MikroTik Certified Wireless Engineer
- Ubiquiti Broadband Wireless Specialist (UBWS),
- Ubiquiti Enterprise Wireless Admin (UEWA),
