JOB DESCRIPTION


A Regional Project Managers in telecommunications (MTHATHA , KZN & EAST LONDON) oversees
the planning, installation, implementation and commissioning and acceptance testing of projects related to telecommunications systems within a specific region. This role involves managing, contractors, teams of technicians, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities include defining project scope and specifications, developing plans, finalising contracts and SLAs with contractors, suppliers and vendors, managing budgets, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

The role has dual reporting lines to the Programme Manager and Regional Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Execution: Developing project plans, specifications, designs, schedules, and budgets, defining project scope, and ensuring alignment with strategic requirements.
  2. Contractor and Vendor Management: Ensure that capable contractors are appointed on time, are provided with the scope of work and designs and are supervised to complete the project on time.
  3. Team Leadership and Management: Leading and coordinating cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and vendors.
  4. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Addressing and resolving technical issues that may occur during installation or implementation. Ability to identify and resolve technical issues, troubleshoot problems, and find effective solutions.
  5. Reporting: Providing regular updates and reports to senior management on project status, performance, and any challenges encountered.
  6. Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks and issues.
  7. Stakeholder Communication: Communicating project status, issues, and risks to stakeholders, including clients, team members, and management. Ability to interact professionally with clients and provide excellent customer service
  8. Budget Management: Monitoring project expenses, tracking costs, and ensuring projects stay within allocated budgets.
  9. Quality Assurance: Ensuring projects are delivered to the required quality standards and meet stakeholder expectations. Monitoring installation processes and ensuring they meet established standards and regulations, conducting site visits and inspections as needed.
  10. Safety and Compliance: Ensuring projects adhere to industry regulations and best practices. Ensuring that all installation activities are conducted in accordance with safety regulations and guidelines, promoting a safe working environment. Strong commitment to safety and a thorough understanding of relevant safety regulations and guidelines.
  11. Vendor Management: Managing relationships with telecommunications vendors, negotiating contracts, and monitoring service level agreements.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  1. Project Management Methodologies: Strong understanding and experience with project management methodologies.
  2. Technical Expertise: Knowledge of telecommunications technologies, networks, and systems.
  3. Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead and motivate teams, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and present complex information clearly.
  4. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Ability to analyze complex problems, identify solutions, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  5. Financial Management: Understanding of project budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  6. Risk Management: Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in engineering
  2. A qualifications in Telecommunications will be an added advantage
  3. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred).
  4. Proven experience in telecommunications project management.
  5. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Strong understanding of telecommunications technologies and infrastructure
