South Africa boasts a thriving gaming industry, with a market value of $290 million (R5.2 billion). However, this economic prosperity is unevenly distributed, with significant disparities in access to gaming technology and opportunities. Ilitha Gaming seeks to address this digital divide by creating inclusive gaming spaces in underserved communities.

Recognising the potential of the gaming industry to drive economic growth and skills development, Ilitha Gaming is establishing a network of gaming centers in urban, townships and rural areas. Our flagship center in Mdantsane serves as a model for this initiative, providing affordable access to high-quality gaming equipment and internet connectivity.

By offering a comfortable and welcoming environment, we aim to cultivate a passion for gaming and empower individuals with the digital skills necessary to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Our focus on inclusivity ensures that traditionally marginalized groups, such as women and youth, have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from the gaming ecosystem.

Recent outreach programs in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Sports and Arts and Culture, as well as the Cortex Hub at the National Arts Festival, have highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives. These collaborations have enabled us to identify key challenges and opportunities within these communities.

Ilitha Gaming’s strategic partnerships with Ilitha Telecommunications, Microsoft Airband Initiative, and the Cortex Hub Accelerator are instrumental in achieving our goals. Our collaboration with Microsoft has resulted in the acquisition of Xbox Series S consoles and Game Pass subscriptions, providing access to a diverse range of games. Additionally, our high-speed internet infrastructure ensures seamless online gaming experiences.

Beyond providing gaming facilities, Ilitha Gaming is committed to developing the gaming industry’s human capital. We will establish esports teams, conduct workshops, and collaborate with educational institutions to foster talent and create career pathways. Our inaugural event, “SHE-Plays,” in partnership with the Cortex Hub, demonstrated our commitment to empowering women in the gaming space.

By bridging the digital divide and creating inclusive gaming environments, Ilitha Gaming is not only providing entertainment but also investing in the future of our communities. Our centers serve as catalysts for social and economic development, equipping individuals with the skills and confidence to succeed in the digital age.
